Every product developed from scratch—handling optical design, electronic circuit design, and overall project leadership as CTO, and guiding the company to IPO as board director & CTO. The tunable lasers he developed were delivered to research institutes worldwide, including AT&T Bell Labs and BT Labs, holding the top market share at the time.
Key products and achievements
- Developed the world's first optical-fiber transmitted-light distribution measurement system for optical communications, including its IR image-processing system — 1984
- Developed systems based on ultra-high-precision optical path-length measurement using white-light interferometry (semiconductor wafer trench-depth measurement, high-precision film-thickness inspection, optical-fiber chromatic-dispersion measurement)
- World-first commercialization of tunable laser sources and frequency-stabilized light sources (stability below 0.1 ppm) for optical communications
- Developed 1.3μm- and 1.55μm-band tunable lasers, sold to research institutes worldwide—including AT&T Bell Labs and BT Labs—with the top share at the time
- Developed a state-of-the-art LF image-processing system for DRAM (3,000 ICs on board), which became the industry standard — 1990
- Obtained Intel equipment certification for the world-standard MPU package inspection; cumulative sales exceeding ¥5 billion — 1997
